FAQ About Hospital Newborn Photos - Fresh 48

Photos in the hospital may not be something you’ve considered or even knew was a possibility, but a Fresh 48 session is a wonderful way to document the earliest moments when you’re just getting to know your new baby. Babies change so quickly and it’s hard to remember all of the details when you’re sleep-deprived and recovering yourself. I love working with new parents (or repeat parents) to create a relaxed environment so you can soak up these early memories.

What exactly is Fresh 48 newborn photography?

Fresh 48 photography involves capturing the first 48 hours of your baby's life in the hospital or before you are discharged from the hospital. These sessions focus on authentic, candid moments, ensuring you have a beautiful record of the earliest memories.

How do Fresh 48 sessions work?

You let me know when you go into labor and once your baby arrives we will finalize a day and time for your session. I’ll visit your hospital room and use natural light to create beautiful and candid images of your newborn and family. Sometimes I move furniture around for optimal lighting and composition, but I leave everything just as I found it so there is no work on your end other than caring for your new baby.

When are hospital newborn photos typically taken?

These photos are usually taken within the first 48 hours after birth, while you're still in the hospital. The timing ensures that you capture those fresh and fleeting moments.

How should we dress our baby in the photos?

Simple is always best. Swaddling your baby in a soft, neutral-colored blanket or outfit can create a timeless look. The focus should be on your baby's natural beauty. I always bring a few blankets as well to make it easier for families.

Can we include siblings or family members in the photos?

Yes! These photos capture the love and excitement of the entire family during this special time. We will discuss this in advance so we can plan accordingly, but I absolutely want you to include siblings and other family members if it makes sense for your family.

Is it safe for our baby to be photographed so soon after birth?

Safety is my top priority for Fresh 48 sessions. I’m a mom of two and an experienced early childhood special educator, so I am comfortable in handling newborns and will ensure that your baby is comfortable and secure throughout the session. Rest assured that your baby's well-being is paramount.

What happens if we are not ready for photos after our baby arrives or the birth doesn’t go as planned?

I’ve had two babies myself and like to be flexible since you can’t always predict how you will feel after your baby arrives. We can always transfer the session to an in-home newborn session.

How long does a typical photo session last?

A typical hospital newborn photo session lasts around 90 minutes, but this all depends on your baby. Some babies need more time and some less with transitions. I want to be sure to capture all of the special moments to provide a variety of photos while also respecting your bonding time with your baby.

What are the costs associated with hospital newborn photos?

I have a range of packages for hospital newborn sessions. Head on over to my Investment Page to see your options.

When will we receive the final photos?

You will receive a link to your gallery within 4 weeks of your session date, but I always share a few sneak peeks beforehand because I know how eager you’ll be to see photos of your new baby.

What if our baby is fussy or uncooperative during the session?

Newborns can be unpredictable, and I am well-prepared for this. I'll work patiently and adapt to your baby's needs, ensuring the session is as stress-free as possible. The priority is to capture authentic moments, even if it means taking breaks or waiting for the perfect shot.

Remember that it's essential for new parents to communicate their preferences, concerns, and questions to ensure a positive and memorable newborn photo experience. These photos will become cherished memories of your baby's earliest days, so feel free to make the experience your own. I want you to enjoy every moment of it.
